The UM6P-CGIAR African PhD Scholarship Program

We are excited to share an opportunity for prospective African PhD students to pursue their doctoral studies in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at UM6P. The UM6P-CGIAR African PhD Scholarship Program, launched in collaboration between UM6P and CGIAR, aims to support outstanding scholars in advancing research and innovation for sustainable development across the continent.
A total of 10 scholarships are available for candidates pursuing PhDs closely aligned with the following six core research themes:
- Systems Approaches for Sustainable Intensification of African Agriculture
- Soil Health to Sustain Food Security in Africa
- Biodiversity and Genetic Resources to Sustain Food Security in Africa
- Role of Social Sciences Research to Sustain Food Security in Africa
- Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation, and Water Management in Africa
- Big Data & Geospatial Science in Agricultural Research and Extension

About UM6P’s PhD Program:
The Center for Doctoral Studies (CEDoc) at UM6P offers a 4-year doctoral program dedicated to training students in academic research through a path of excellence and innovation. The structure includes:
- One pre-doctoral year: Comprehensive training to enhance students’ disciplinary knowledge, methodological skills, and integration into academic communities.
- Three-year PhD research program: Conducted at CGIAR Centers with supervision from both UM6P and CGIAR.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Relevant master’s or Master of Philosophy degree
- At least 6 months of professional research experience within the last 5 years
- Strong motivation and interest in pursuing a PhD in agricultural research
- Proficiency in English
- African nationality
- Commitment to the full duration of the program
