Thesis Abstract
Abstract—Cloud Storage Services has recently emerged as an attractive means of remotely storing and maintaining data over the internet. Businesses and organizations generating volumes of data are relieved from the burden of local storage and associated maintenance costs. However, users lose ultimate control over outsourced data with a possibility of having the data; deleted, modified or altered by unauthorized malicious users. Thus, data integrity in cloud storage services has become a major security concern for users who consider storing sensitive data to the cloud. Accordingly, a number of approaches to data integrity preservation in cloud storage services were reviewed and limitation highlighted. In order to contribute to addressing some of the current challenges of data integrity in cloud services, an approach based secure hash functions for data integrity status determination targeting resource constrained devices has been proposed. The results of evaluation of the approach shows that, the approach was able to correctly detect data integrity breaches with accuracy level of 87.3%. However, the optimality of the approach was not evaluated as it was outside the scope of the study.
